Maintenance Tips
When properly maintained, your hardwood floors will last for a lifetime.
- Sweep or vacuum your floor regularly in order to remove dirt particles that will wear out your finish.
- Clean lightly soiled areas by rubbing with a damp cloth.
- Do not mop your floor as a regular cleaning method, but rather occasionally, when your floor is heavily soiled. When necessary, heavily soiled areas can be cleaned with a solution of 1 cup full of vinegar with 1 gallon of warm water, however, be sure that your mop is as dry as possible and dry the floor after mopping. Avoid using mops that leave excessive water on the floor. Never let a spill of liquid dry on the floor.
- Buy a “floor care kit” that your installer or flooring retailer recommends. Different finishes have different maintenance requirements, and it’s best to follow professional advice in this area.
- Be cautious of using products containing oil or wax, as these ingredients may not be compatible with your type of finish.
- Floor protector pads should be installed on the bottom of all furniture legs.
- Be cautious of wearing high heels on wood floors, many will leave dents.
- Keep your pet’s nails trimmed regularly to prevent damage.
- Keep the humidity in your home stable.
- Have your floors recoated every few years or when the finish starts to become dull. By properly recoating your hardwood floors, you will maintain the finish and the floors will last many years without having to be refinished.
